The following information regarding sessions and FAQs about my practice are meant to give you a better idea of what you can expect when working with me.

Initial Phone Consultation

In order to get a sense if we would make a good therapeutic fit, I ask that you first join me for a free, 20-minute phone consultation. This preliminary call is a chance for you to discuss your most pressing issues and learn a bit more about me and my approach to therapy. If at the end of this brief call, we both feel that we would be a good working team, you may schedule an initial session.

First Session

Prior to our first in-person meeting, I’ll ask you to fill out my standard intake forms and bring them to your first appointment. Filling out these forms prior to our first meeting will allow us to get started quickly and address your most urgent issues. Many clients experience a sense of relief during their first session as it gives them a safe and confidential space to talk about their concerns and feel validated without judgement, perhaps for the first time.

Continuing Sessions

If after our first in-person session, you would like to continue working together, you may schedule your next session (either online or before you leave my office). To learn more about what to expect from therapy, please visit the various specialty pages on this website or read about my approach . You can also refer to the frequently asked questions below.

FAQs

What populations do you serve?

I work with adults and older adolescents age 17 and up.

Where are you located?

My office is in north central Boulder, within walking distance from the Ideal shopping plaza and North Boulder Park. It is also close to the Mt. Sanitas Trailhead. Why not take in a walk/hike before or after your appointment? It’s a great way to take care of yourself and collect/digest your thoughts before/after your therapy session.

What are your rates?

Individual sessions are 60 minutes and cost $135. Family sessions are 75 minutes and cost $170. Payment is due in full immediately following each session.

How do I pay? Do you accept insurance?

I accept cash, check, and Venmo. I do not accept insurance, but I can provide you with a “superbill,” a detailed receipt of our session that you may submit to your insurance provider. Contact your insurance company for more information to find out about reimbursement levels for out of network therapists.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please do so at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment to avoid being charged for the full cost of your session. I understand that unforeseen, last-minute challenges arise such as an emergency, sudden illness, or inclement weather, and will make exceptions on this basis.

Are you available after hours, on vacation, or weekends if I’m experiencing a crisis?

I do my best to operate my practice in a way that is responsible to client needs, supportive of client autonomy, and respectful of my limits as a care-provider. During our sessions I will encourage you to establish boundaries in your life to ensure a healthy balance between work, family, self-care, etc. I engage in the same practice by setting aside time during which I am not available to clients, allowing me to be well-resourced and fully present during sessions.

Therefore, I am not ordinarily available for crisis calls that occur outside of scheduled appointments. However, exceptions to this policy may be made at my discretion.

I check my voicemail and email messages regularly during my business hours, and will attempt to respond to any communications within 48 hours (not including weekends or holidays).

If you are in need of immediate crisis care, please contact Colorado Crisis Services’ 24-hour crisis hotline at (844) 493-TALK (8255) or text TALK to 38255. You may also visit the 24/7 walk-in crisis clinic located at 3180 Airport Rd in Boulder, CO.

If you are experiencing a true mental health emergency, please go to your nearest emergency room, or call 911.

How often should I go to therapy?

Every client’s needs are different. When first starting therapy, I recommend weekly sessions. This supports building the therapeutic relationship and creating consistency in the work. Some clients with lower needs at the time prefer to come bi-weekly.

I do not recommend scheduling sessions less frequently than bi-weekly for clients new to therapy. Clients with a substantial amount of experience with therapy sometimes schedule sessions less frequently after the therapeutic relationship has been established. I am happy to make frequency recommendations based on your needs at the time.

Still have questions? I’d love to connect and talk about how I can best support you. Please contact me for a free, 20-minute phone consultation. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you!
